The mission of the UCSB athletic training staff is first and foremost the care of the student-athlete. UCSB sponsors 19 NCAA Division I sports and we are committed to the total well being of all the student-athletes participating in these sports. We strive to provide the highest quality of medical care within the limits of our resources, minimizing liability and maximizing the playing time and quality of performance in any given venue. We serve as liaisons between coaches, parents, doctors, athletes, and administrators. The athletic training staff operates within the policies outlined in the UCSB athletic training policies and procedures manual, the NCAA sports Medicine handbook, and the NCAA manual. The UCSB certified athletic training staff consist of four full-time athletic trainers and two part-time athletic trainers. Our staff athletic trainers are responsible for ensuring that quality of care is provided to all student-athletes at UCSB. We are skilled in the latest techniques of prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. We also manage administrative duties including medical referrals, insurance billing, student development, pre-participation physical exams, and public relations. Each staff member has at least one traveling sport assignment, as well as supervising all home athletic events. Additional responsibilities may also include duties from the athletic department and the athletic director.
